The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a fresh and urgent warning to members of the public, both Nigerians and foreign nationals, to beware of fraudsters and fake websites impersonating its official platforms, stressing that only three designated online portals are authorised for passport and visa applications and related payments.
The warning, issued via the Service's official social media platforms on Thursday, July 30, 2026, in Abuja, became necessary to protect unsuspecting applicants seeking passport, visa, and other immigration services from fraudulent websites designed to exploit them. The NIS reiterated that it has not authorised any religious organisation, private entity, or individual to act as an intermediary or collect payments on its behalf.
According to the NIS, the only authorised platform for passport payments for Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, is https://passport.immigration.gov.ng. For foreigners wishing to apply for visas, the Service listed https://visa.immigration.gov.ng for visa applications at Nigerian embassies, and https://evisa.immigration.gov.ng for electronic visa (e-Visa) applications. Separate official platforms also exist for Temporary Work Permit (TWP) and the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (eCERPAC).
The Service stressed that these are the only legitimate platforms for processing Nigerian passports, embassy visas, and e-Visas, and urged applicants to avoid patronising unauthorised websites or persons claiming to represent the NIS or facilitate its services. The NIS further reminded applicants that its Mobile Application for Contactless Passport Application is available for download on Apple iOS and the Google Play Store, providing a secure and convenient alternative for passport processing.
Members of the public seeking clarification, assistance, or wishing to report suspected fraud are encouraged to contact the Service through its verified communication channels, including its official X (Twitter) accounts @nigimmigration and @InquireAtNaija, its verified Facebook and Instagram handles @nigimmigration, and WhatsApp numbers 09160878000 and 09117717772. The NIS urged the public to exercise caution at all times, verify the authenticity of websites before making payments or submitting personal details, and promptly report suspicious websites or fraudulent activities relating to its services to the appropriate authorities. The Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of its digital platforms and ensuring secure, transparent, and seamless service delivery to the public.
