The Jigawa State Police Command has urged residents of Tsohon Gari and surrounding communities in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area not to panic upon hearing gunshots on Sunday, August 2, 2026, as it conducts a routine shooting range exercise for its personnel at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range. The advisory, contained in a statement issued on Saturday, August 1, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, was aimed at preventing unnecessary fear and ensuring the smooth conduct of the training.

According to the police spokesperson, all arrangements have been finalised for the exercise, which forms part of the command's regular firearms proficiency and operational training programme. The drill is designed to enhance the capacity, professionalism, combat readiness, and operational effectiveness of police personnel in the discharge of their constitutional duties of protecting lives and property across the state. The exercise will take place at the designated facility in Tsohon Gari, a location that has been used for similar training exercises in the past.

SP Adam assured residents that the firing would be conducted in a safe and controlled environment under strict supervision. He explained that the training is aimed at improving officers' firearms handling and tactical skills, which are essential for responding effectively to security challenges. The command also advised members of the public to avoid the immediate vicinity of the shooting range throughout the duration of the exercise to ensure public safety and facilitate the smooth conduct of the training.

The police appealed to residents, commuters, and members of the public to remain calm throughout the exercise, stressing that the gunfire would be part of a planned training activity and not a security emergency. The command expressed appreciation for the understanding, cooperation, and continued support of the people of Jigawa State and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents while continuously improving the professional competence of its personnel.

This advisory comes as part of the police command's ongoing efforts to enhance the operational readiness of its officers. The Jigawa State Government has previously supported security training initiatives, including the allocation of land for the construction of a state-of-the-art shooting range in the area. The command has urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and to avoid the vicinity of the range during the exercise.
