The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a popular TikTok content creator, Namadina Tudunwada, over allegations that he encouraged young people to engage in fornication through a viral video in which he compared the cost of illicit sexual relations with the expense of marriage. The Deputy Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Mujahid Aminuddeen, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, August 3, 2026, confirming that operatives of the Hisbah command in Tudunwada Local Government Area apprehended the TikToker following the circulation of the controversial video.
In the video, Namadina was quoted as saying that engaging in illicit sexual relations could cost about ₦2,000, while marriage could require as much as ₦200,000, a comparison that authorities believe could influence young people to avoid marriage. The Hisbah Board alleged that the content amounted to encouraging youths to commit fornication by portraying it as a cheaper and more convenient alternative to marriage. "The suspect was arrested after making statements capable of misleading young people and promoting immoral behaviour," the Board said in its statement.
Aminuddeen stated that the board would conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. "We will expand our investigation and take the appropriate action in accordance with the law," he said. The Hisbah Board also cautioned other social media influencers and content creators against publishing content that could be interpreted as promoting immorality or violating societal values, stressing that content shared on social media carries consequences and should be guided by moral and religious responsibility. The arrest highlights the growing scrutiny of social media content in Kano State, where the Hisbah Board has increasingly extended its oversight to digital platforms, including TikTok, as part of its mandate to enforce Islamic moral codes.
