The people of Chawai Chiefdom in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State have made an impassioned appeal to Governor Uba Sani to provide urgent relief and medical assistance to victims of the deadly attack on Naridon village, which claimed at least 30 lives on the night of July 26, 2026. In an open letter addressed to the governor, the community commended his leadership, describing his administration as inclusive and fair, and expressed confidence that every community in the state is valued. However, they voiced deep concern over what they described as a lack of government intervention following the attack, noting that many survivors and families of the victims are still struggling with grief, trauma, displacement, and the challenges of caring for those injured.
The attack occurred shortly before midnight on Sunday, July 26, when heavily armed gunmen stormed Naridon village in Kamaru Ward, opening fire on sleeping residents and setting homes and shops ablaze. The assailants operated for several hours, leaving a trail of destruction that included the deaths of at least 30 people, mostly women and children, and the displacement of many families. Among the victims were five siblings from the same family—Deborah, Friday, Yusuf, Yunana and Irimiya Emmanuel—whose parents survived after fleeing into nearby bushes. The attackers reportedly told the parents: "We will spare you and kill all your children." One critically injured child survived and is currently receiving treatment.
In their letter, the community said many affected residents feel neglected, as they have yet to receive meaningful assistance. They urged the governor to urgently provide relief materials to affected families to ease their hardship and meet their basic needs, and called for proper medical treatment and care for those injured during the attack to aid their recovery. The community also appealed for intensified military operations against criminal groups operating around the Kaduna–Plateau border and urged authorities to facilitate the safe return of those still missing or abducted.
Governor Uba Sani had earlier condemned the killings and directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible. He also ordered the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) to provide immediate relief and humanitarian assistance to affected families. However, the Chawai community's appeal suggests that the promised assistance has yet to reach those in need. The attack has renewed concerns over persistent insecurity in Kauru LGA, one of the areas in Southern Kaduna that has experienced repeated attacks on rural communities in recent months, with residents calling for stronger security measures and greater protection from both the federal and state governments. As the community awaits the governor's response, their appeal serves as a stark reminder that for many survivors of the Naridon massacre, the promise of relief remains unfulfilled, and the road to recovery is still long and uncertain.
