The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dealt a significant blow to an arms trafficking syndicate with the successful raid of a suspected bandits' hideout in the Dajin Mamdam Forest, recovering two FN FAL rifles and a cache of live ammunition. The operation, which took place on Sunday, August 2, 2026, was the culmination of an intensive investigation into a network allegedly supplying weapons and ammunition to criminal groups operating across the region.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the raid was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit following actionable intelligence provided by one of the suspects in police custody. The suspect, identified as Musbahu Ishaq, was among four individuals earlier arrested for their alleged involvement in the supply of arms, ammunition, and illicit substances to bandits. During interrogation, Ishaq reportedly led investigators to the forest hideout, located along the border between Plateau and Bauchi states, where the syndicate was suspected to have maintained a concealed stockpile.
A thorough search of the hideout led to the discovery of two FN FAL rifles and live ammunition carefully concealed in the forest. The police spokesperson further disclosed that investigations revealed Ishaq had obtained the arms and ammunition from one Rabiu Hassan and supplied them to a suspected bandit kingpin identified as Baba Alhaji Sanusi, who is currently at large and believed to be hiding in a forest in Katsina State. The recovery of the weapons marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing effort to dismantle the supply chain fuelling banditry and other violent crimes in the FCT and neighbouring states.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, reaffirmed the command's unwavering commitment to intelligence-led policing and assured residents that operations would continue until all criminal networks are dismantled. He urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information through the nearest police station or the command's emergency lines. As investigations continue, the police have intensified efforts to arrest other members of the syndicate and recover more arms linked to the network, with all suspects expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.
