In a decisive blow against criminal networks exploiting digital financial channels, operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate while he was allegedly attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds at a Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal in Ilorin East Local Government Area. The suspect, identified as Muhamodu Sanni, 27, was intercepted following an intelligence-driven investigation into the armed abduction of three persons from Obudu Village on July 28, 2026.
The Kwara State Police Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, by its Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that the arrest followed weeks of meticulous intelligence gathering that extended beyond the immediate scene of the attack to trace the communication, logistics and financial channels allegedly supporting the kidnapping operation. The abduction occurred when armed men invaded Obudu Village in the Obudu/Woru axis of Ilorin East Local Government Area, taking three residents captive. The breakthrough came when intelligence surrounding the ransom transaction led operatives to Sanni, who was apprehended at a POS location while allegedly attempting to cash out proceeds linked to the abduction.
