The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the official results for Olorunda Local Government Area in the Osun State governorship election, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) securing a narrow victory over the Accord Party in one of the state's key battlegrounds. According to the results declared by the Returning Officer, Professor Hillary Oko, the APC polled 24,671 votes, while the Accord Party, led by incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, garnered 23,514 votes, a margin of just 1,157 votes.
The results, which were announced on Saturday, August 15, 2026, showed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came a distant third with 666 votes, while other parties polled significantly lower figures. The African Action Congress (AAC) secured 94 votes, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) got 86 votes, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) polled 71 votes, and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) recorded 18 votes. Other parties, including the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Boot Party (BP), and the Action Democratic Party (ADP), recorded single-digit figures, while some parties, including the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recorded zero votes.
Olorunda Local Government Area has a total of 123,063 registered voters, out of which 51,172 were accredited to vote on election day. The total valid votes cast stood at 49,458, while 1,335 votes were rejected. The total number of votes cast was 50,793, representing a voter turnout of approximately 41.5 per cent.
The result in Olorunda is significant as it reflects the broader dynamics of the Osun governorship election, which has been fiercely contested between Governor Adeleke of the Accord Party and the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. While the APC narrowly won Olorunda, the overall outcome of the election will depend on results from other local government areas across the state. Olorunda, which includes parts of Osogbo, the state capital, is considered a bellwether for the broader political mood in Osun State.
The release of the Olorunda results is part of the ongoing collation of results from across the state's 30 local government areas. As of the time of this report, INEC officials were still announcing results from other LGAs, with the final outcome of the election expected to be known later on Saturday or early Sunday. The election, which featured 15 candidates, has been closely watched as a bellwether for the 2027 general elections, with both the APC and the Accord Party viewing the contest as a crucial test of their political strength.
For the people of Olorunda, the results represent a mixed verdict, with the APC winning by a slim margin but the Accord Party putting up a strong fight. As the collation of results continues across the state, the final outcome will determine who will govern Osun State for the next four years.
