The Imole Campaign Council (TICC), the re-election organisation of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has called on the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and concede defeat in Saturday's governorship election. The call came as collated results from across the state's 30 local government areas showed Governor Adeleke of the Accord Party opening a commanding lead over his main challenger.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, the campaign council's spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the computation of results received from polling units and wards across the state clearly showed that the people of Osun had renewed their mandate for Governor Adeleke. According to the campaign council, the will of the people, as expressed through their votes, is clear and must be respected.
"We therefore urge the APC candidate to put on the noble garment of a democrat, accept the verdict of the electorate and concede defeat," Olajengbesi said. "Osun State is bigger than anyone's political ambition. An election is a contest in which the winner is decided by the electorate, not imposed on them."
The TICC spokesperson also warned against any attempt to subvert the will of the people through what he described as "criminally manufactured or manipulated figures" or the deployment of so-called "federal might." He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain faithful to the results from the polling units and ensure that the will of the Osun people, freely expressed at the ballot, is protected throughout the collation and declaration process.
"The people of Osun State have spoken clearly. Their votes must count, their choice must be respected, and their mandate must not be altered," Olajengbesi added.
The call for concession came as INEC continued the collation of results from across the state. By Saturday evening, Governor Adeleke had won in 12 of the 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji had secured victories in five, with results from the remaining LGAs still being collated. The election, which featured 15 candidates, was contested under a tight security arrangement, with over 15,000 police officers deployed across the state.
The APC has yet to officially respond to the TICC's call for concession. However, the party had earlier accused the Accord Party of circulating unverified results and warned against any attempt to undermine the electoral process. As the collation of results continues, the people of Osun State await the final declaration from INEC, which will determine who governs the state for the next four years.
The Osun governorship election has been closely watched as a bellwether for the 2027 general elections, with both the APC and the Accord Party viewing the contest as a crucial test of their political strength.
