Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has escalated her feud with Nigerian singer Seyi Vibez, instructing her lawyers to issue a formal demand letter over two X posts she says are defamatory, malicious and false. Her legal team at Olaniwun Ajayi LP, one of Nigeria's premier corporate law firms, sent the letter on August 15, 2026, to Afolabi Oluwaseyi Balogun, popularly known as Seyi Vibez, giving him three days to comply with a series of demands or face legal enforcement.
The legal showdown stems from two posts published on Seyi Vibez's verified X account on August 14. The first, posted at 1:24 p.m., read: "Na Hilda Baci bbl all una catalogue money dey go [Face with Tears of Joy emoji] All of una Dey craze and una mama." The second, posted at 1:32 p.m., referenced music executive Dapper, who is engaged to Hilda Baci. Seyi Vibez reportedly wrote: "I Made dapper. Dapper won take all of them life Ohboi. I chop Hilda baci food one day Na the same dapper give me the food almost kill me Dem Dey use jazz The jazz no work on me."
According to the legal letter, the two posts had been viewed approximately 4.3 million times, reposted about 7,100 times, received around 3,000 comments and 45,000 likes, and remained accessible and in circulation online. Hilda Baci's lawyers argued that the publications had exposed their client to "unwanted, persistent and escalating harassment" across social media platforms, including unsolicited and abusive messages and comments from members of the public. The lawyers maintained that the alleged harassment had caused their client considerable distress and reputational harm, while interfering with her privacy, peace and personal security.
The legal letter, which was signed by the law firm, accused Seyi Vibez of violating several laws, including libel and offences under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, as amended. Olaniwun Ajayi LP demanded that Seyi Vibez immediately remove and permanently delete the two posts and any other content published, shared or circulated by him concerning Hilda Baci which contains or repeats the alleged defamatory statements. The lawyers also demanded a "clear and unequivocal public apology and retraction" to be published prominently across all his social media accounts, including his X account.
Seyi Vibez was further given three days from receipt of the letter to provide a written undertaking that he would cease and desist from publishing, communicating, repeating, reposting or circulating any defamatory or unlawful statements concerning Hilda Baci. The lawyers also demanded that he call on his followers, fans and others who had engaged in the alleged harassment of Hilda Baci to immediately stop such conduct. Olaniwun Ajayi warned that failure, refusal or neglect to comply with the demands within the stipulated period would leave Hilda Baci with no option but to legally enforce her rights.
The development comes amid a public dispute involving Seyi Vibez, Dapper and other music industry figures, with Seyi Vibez's comments drawing attention to Hilda Baci. The singer, who has previously exited Dapper Music, had made several allegations against the label, including claims that artist funds were used to finance the chef's lifestyle. An entertainment lawyer had earlier criticised the decision to drag Hilda Baci into the ongoing controversy, describing Seyi Vibez's reference to her as unfair and questioning why she was mentioned in the dispute.
As the three-day deadline approaches, the music industry and fans alike are watching closely to see whether Seyi Vibez will comply with the demands or face a legal battle that could have significant consequences for his career and public image. For Hilda Baci, the legal action signals a determination to protect her reputation and hold those who make defamatory statements accountable. The outcome of this dispute could set a precedent for how Nigerian celebrities respond to online attacks and the growing intersection of social media, defamation and the law.
