Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 civilians in a series of coordinated operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, dealing another blow to terrorist networks that have held communities hostage in Nigeria's North-West. The successful operations, conducted on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, underscore the military's growing capacity to respond to multiple threats simultaneously and protect vulnerable civilians from the scourge of banditry and abduction.
According to military sources, troops of Sector 2 responded to intelligence reports of terrorist activity in Zamfara State, leading to the rescue of several abducted persons. In a separate operation in Kebbi State, soldiers acted on distress calls from communities under attack, engaging terrorists in a fierce firefight that forced them to abandon their captives. Troops in Sokoto State also conducted clearance operations, rescuing civilians who had been held in captivity for days. The rescued victims, who included men, women and children, were immediately evacuated to safe locations and handed over to relevant authorities for medical evaluation and reunification with their families.
The rescue operations form part of the sustained offensive launched by Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which has intensified its campaign against banditry and terrorism across the North-West. In recent weeks, troops have conducted a series of clearance operations, rescued kidnapped victims and recovered weapons and explosives from terrorist hideouts. The military has also stepped up air strikes on terrorist concentrations, forcing many bandits to abandon their camps and flee into the surrounding forests.
The Theatre Command has commended the troops for their professionalism, courage and commitment to protecting lives and property. The military has also called on residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces to support ongoing operations. As the fight against terrorism continues, the message from the Theatre Command is clear: the era of impunity for terrorists and bandits in the North-West is coming to an end, and no criminal network will be allowed to hold communities hostage to fear and violence.
