The Federal Government has officially released the 2026/2027 admission list for candidates offered places into Junior Secondary School One of Federal Unity Colleges across the country, marking a critical milestone in the academic journey of thousands of young Nigerians. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday, August 24, 2026, by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, confirming that the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, had approved the release of the list. The development is part of the government's ongoing efforts to ensure a transparent, accessible and orderly admission process for candidates seeking placement in the nation's Federal Unity Colleges for the new academic session.
The admission exercise follows the conduct of the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination, which serves as the primary basis for admission into JSS1 of the Federal Unity Colleges. According to the Federal Ministry of Education, a total of 60,357 candidates registered for the 2026 NCEE, while 56,950 sat for the examination and 3,407 were absent. Ten candidates emerged as the highest scorers with 202 marks out of a possible 210, while 82 candidates recorded the lowest score of one mark. The admission process is based on three approved criteria: 60 per cent merit, 30 per cent equality of states and 10 per cent exigency. The release of the list clears the way for successful candidates to commence the next stage of their secondary education in the various unity schools nationwide.
Parents and guardians can now check the admission status of their children and wards through the Federal Ministry of Education's designated admission portal or via the notice board of the relevant Federal Unity College. The ministry has specifically directed parents and guardians to access the admission status and print admission slips through the FME Posting Portal at https://fmeposting.com.ng/auth/login. Candidates are required to log in using the required details, check their admission status, and if offered admission, download and print the admission slip. The slip will indicate the specific Federal Unity College to which the candidate has been assigned, and families are then required to proceed to that school in person to complete confirmation and all other admission formalities.
The ministry has also advised parents and guardians to check the admission status of their children promptly to avoid missing any deadline in the admission process. For those without reliable internet access, the Federal Ministry of Education has made provision for physical checks, as parents and guardians can view the admission list on the notice board of the relevant Federal Unity College in their area. Successful candidates are required to meet the requirements of their respective colleges and complete all required documentation within the given period. The ministry also urged parents to provide the necessary support to their children and wards ahead of resumption.
Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa congratulated all successful candidates and their families, urging the students to take the opportunity seriously and remain focused on their studies. He also encouraged the newly admitted students to be disciplined, committed to their education and focused on achieving good academic results as they begin their studies in the Federal Unity Colleges. The Federal Unity Colleges are among the Federal Government's key institutions for promoting quality secondary education while fostering national integration by bringing students from diverse parts of the country together. The government has also announced that the admission exercise follows the federal government's move to automate placement into Federal Unity Colleges, a reform designed to improve transparency, efficiency and capacity management while addressing overcrowding.
