The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has firmly denied receiving any report on the alleged sale of kidneys by young people in the Nyanya area of Abuja, dismissing viral social media claims that an agent in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was purchasing organs from desperate youths. The Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, issued a statement on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, categorically stating that the police had neither received nor confirmed any complaint or intelligence relating to human organ trafficking in the Nyanya area or its surroundings.
Adeh said the clarification became necessary following the circulation of social media publications claiming that the FCT Police Command had confirmed reports that young people residing around Nyanya had sold their kidneys for money. The reports further alleged that an unidentified agent operating in the Mararaba area of neighbouring Nasarawa State was purchasing the kidneys from the affected youths. “The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature. No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command,” she declared.
The police spokesperson urged the public to disregard the publication and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of causing unnecessary fear, panic, and apprehension among residents. She enjoined anyone with information regarding the alleged human organ trafficking, or any other security concern within the FCT, to promptly report to the nearest police station or to the command through the following phone numbers: 07038979348 or 08028940883.
The denial comes amid heightened public concern over the vulnerability of young Nigerians to exploitation, particularly in the face of the country's worsening economic crisis.
