The Oyo State Police Command has arrested ten suspected human parts merchants and recovered several human parts, including a human heart, human flesh and pieces of a human skull, from their hideouts in the Iseyin and Saki areas of Oyo State. The arrests, which followed months of painstaking intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance, were carried out on August 1, 2026, by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit.
The suspects were paraded at the Oyo State Police Command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, on Saturday, August 15, 2026. They were identified as Adam Ibrahim, 42; Nasiru Kabiru, 22; Tijani Wasiu, 54; Abiola Nasiru, 45; Amusa Gbadamosi, 57; Raheem Taofeek, 46; Jimoh Muritala, 35; Suleiman Busari, 47; Ganiyu Nurudeen, 36; and Usman Abdullahi, 52.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the operation was the culmination of several months of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and monitoring of the suspects' activities across the state. Following their arrest, searches of the suspects' hideouts led to the recovery of several items suspected to be human parts, alongside assorted charms.
The recovered exhibits, which have been secured for forensic examination, include a suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of a human skull and assorted charms. The police said the suspects confessed to various levels of involvement in dealing in human parts for ritual purposes and are currently assisting investigators in determining the source, procurement and intended use of the recovered parts.
During interrogation, one of the suspects, Nurudeen Ganiyu, who described himself as a farmer, admitted to using a human skull to prepare a ritual concoction for about two years after receiving it from a man identified as Ila. He told police that he was promised the concoction would bring him wealth, but claimed that his financial situation instead deteriorated. He said he eventually stopped using the concoction after observing what happened to the person who allegedly supplied him with the human skull. Another suspect, Ismail Abdullahi, who identified himself as an Islamic teacher, confessed to using human bone to prepare a ritual concoction for wealth.
In a separate revelation, a suspect linked to the syndicate, Taofeeq Raheem, reportedly confessed to visiting cemeteries to exhume and harvest body parts from corpses, particularly about eight days after burial. Another suspect, Wasiu Tijani, alleged that he obtained human parts from a man identified as Suleiman in Shaki after paying between N20,000 and N30,000.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the operatives for the intelligence-led operation and assured residents that the command remains resolute in its determination to rid the state of criminal elements and protect the sanctity of human life. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide the police with credible information that could assist in preventing and detecting criminal activities across the state. Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the alleged syndicate.
