The Mada community in Zamfara State is in mourning following the death of one of its own. Shehu Afawale, a vigilante member who stood on the frontline to protect his people, passed away after battling an illness. His death, which occurred on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, has left a deep void in the community he served with courage and dedication.
Shehu Afawale was a son, a brother, and a protector. He was among the many vigilantes across Zamfara who take up arms, not for glory, but to defend their communities against the bandits and terrorists who have turned the North-West into a theatre of bloodshed. He did not wear a uniform, but he wore the weight of his people's safety on his shoulders.
His passing is a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who stand between their communities and the forces of terror. Vigilantes often operate with little support, no salary, and no guarantee of safety.
