Nigeria's largest airline, Air Peace, has diverted a flight from Lagos to Asaba back to its point of departure due to poor visibility around the runway at Asaba Airport. The affected flight, P47860, was scheduled to operate from Lagos to Asaba on Thursday, August 27, 2026, when adverse weather conditions forced the aircraft to return to Lagos.
The airline's spokesperson, Mr Osifo-Whiskey Efe, confirmed the diversion in a statement, explaining that the safety of passengers and crew was the overriding factor in the decision. He said the unforeseen development would disrupt the flight and cause delays across the airline's operating network.
"Air Peace flight P47860, scheduled to operate from Lagos to Asaba, diverted to Lagos due to poor visibility around the runway in Asaba," the statement read. "This unforeseen development has disrupted the flight, and other flights across our operating network will be delayed."
The airline apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and advised affected travellers to contact its call centre for further assistance or updates. Air Peace stressed that safety remains its top priority and guides every operational decision.
The diversion follows a pattern of weather-related disruptions in the region. Poor visibility, often caused by heavy rainfall or harmattan haze, has periodically affected flight operations at airports across Nigeria, including Asaba, Lagos and Abuja.
As of the time of this report, there was no update on when the affected passengers would be rebooked or when normal operations would resume on the route.
