Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, swore in new chairmen and members for the Edo State Ecological Funding and Management Commission and the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, charging them to hit the ground running.
Terry Igiebor was sworn in as Chairman of the Ecological Funding and Management Commission, while Professor David Osifo took his oath as a member of the same commission. For the electricity commission, Dr Shittu Shaibu was inaugurated as Chairman, alongside Thomas Inegbedion, Abdulrask Abubakar, Alex Oniawu and Patrick Iluobe as members.
Speaking at the Government House in Benin, Okpebholo congratulated the appointees and told them their jobs would not be easy. He described the task before them as enormous, particularly for the electricity commission, which he said is critical to expanding access to power and supporting the state's development.
Okpebholo noted that several investors have shown interest in Edo, and stressed that the state needs sound policies to attract and sustain investments in the electricity sector. He told the new officials to remain focused. “If we work together and work hard, we can achieve whatever we want to achieve so that we can have a common goal in the electricity sector,” he said. He added: “A lot of stakeholders are coming in; they are assuring us of coming to invest. If we have good policies in place that will drive the process, then we will have whatever we desire”.
Terry Igiebor, speaking for the ecological commission, thanked the governor and described the appointment as a rare privilege. He pledged that the commission would work to advance Okpebholo's SHINE Agenda and deliver results that would make the governor proud at the end of their tenure.
Dr Shittu Shaibu, speaking for the electricity commission, said their appointments were based on merit. He promised that they would bring their wealth of experience to bear on the work, adding that the commission would make Edo “the shining star of Nigeria”.
The swearing-in comes after the Edo State House of Assembly had earlier confirmed the nominees following the governor's request. It also follows a statement from the Conference of Civil Society, which had commended Okpebholo for nominating Shaibu as chairman of the electricity commission.
