Nigeria's representative at the 73rd Miss World competition, Tamunosoye Karibi-George, has made the nation proud by winning the Africa Top Model title, earning an automatic place in the Top 40 quarterfinals of the prestigious global pageant. The 26-year-old beauty queen from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, secured the continental title on Thursday, August 27, 2026, during the Top Model competition held as part of the Vietnam Beauty Fashion Fest XVII, themed “Soul of Heritage”.
Karibi-George emerged victorious ahead of representatives from Equatorial Guinea, Botswana, Kenya and South Africa, showcasing her exceptional runway skills and commanding presence. The Miss World Organisation announced the results on Instagram, confirming that Karibi-George had joined the other continental Top Model winners from the Dominican Republic (Americas and Caribbean), France (Europe), and Vietnam (Asia and Oceania). Her victory earned Nigeria an automatic place in the quarter-finals, with Karibi-George joining the elite group of continental winners who have secured their spots in the Top 40.
The Top 40 will comprise 10 contestants from each of the four continental categories: Africa, Americas and Caribbean, Asia and Oceania, and Europe. The competition isn't over yet, as one of the four continental winners will be named the overall Top Model winner and earn a direct place in the Top 20. The remaining places in the Top 40 will be determined through other Miss World challenges, including People's Choice, Beauty With a Purpose, Head-to-Head and Multimedia.
Karibi-George's journey to the Top 40 has been marked by consistency and determination. Earlier in the competition, she had participated in the Head-to-Head Challenge, where she reached the African finals. Her Top Model victory has now solidified her position as a strong contender for the crown. The 26-year-old communications professional and associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations was crowned Miss World Nigeria 2026 on June 6 after emerging as the winner from 20 finalists at the Balmoral Hall of the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos. She represented Bayelsa State at the national competition and succeeded Joy Mojisola Raimi, who represented Nigeria at the previous Miss World edition and finished among the Top 20.
Beyond pageantry, Karibi-George is the founder of Beyond Labels, an initiative focused on inclusion, dignity and empowerment for children with special needs. She also won Miss Africa International 2024 in Accra, Ghana, before claiming the Miss World Nigeria crown. With her Top Model victory, Karibi-George has now strengthened Nigeria's hopes of securing a strong finish at the 2026 Miss World competition. The Miss World 2026 grand finale will take place on September 5 in Vietnam. As she heads into the final stretch of the competition, all eyes will be on the runway queen from Port Harcourt as she competes for the ultimate crown.
