A significant political realignment has taken place in Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as two prominent All Progressives Congress figures—the former ALGON Chairman of APC Ward Chairmen and the party's Ward Treasurer for Sab-Chem Ward—have resigned their membership of the ruling party and declared their support for the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Zangon-Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency, Hon. Rijo Shekari.
The former ALGON Chairman, Hon. Henry Question, who was described as an influential party chieftain, announced his resignation in a signed letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Nduya Ward, Jaba LGA. In his letter, Question also declared his support for Shekari, with the development expected to be followed by the movement of some of his supporters to the PDP candidate's political camp. His departure marks a significant loss for the APC in the local government area, given his influence and grassroots mobilisation capacity.
In a separate development, the APC Ward Treasurer of Sab-Chem Ward in Jaba LGA also resigned his membership of the party with immediate effect. In a resignation letter dated August 31, 2026, the ward treasurer cited his desire to pursue a political direction that aligns with his principles, convictions and aspirations as the reason for his decision. He subsequently declared his decision to join and support the political movement of Rijo Shekari ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development is being viewed by supporters of the PDP candidate as a boost to the Rijo Shekari Campaign Organisation, particularly in Jaba and Zangon-Kataf LGAs, where grassroots mobilisation and engagement with political stakeholders, community leaders, youths, women and other groups are ongoing. The resignations come amid reported political realignments in Jaba LGA, with individuals and groups previously associated with the APC reassessing their political affiliations ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Rijo Shekari Campaign Organisation has continued to emphasise its commitment to building a broad-based political structure anchored on grassroots engagement, consultation, reconciliation and inclusive participation. The campaign has said its objective is to bring together people from across Jaba, Zango and Zonkwa constituencies, irrespective of their previous political affiliations, in pursuit of effective representation and responsive leadership.
The defection of Henry Question and the Ward Treasurer represents a significant blow to the APC in Jaba LGA and could have implications for the party's electoral fortunes in the Zangon-Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency. As the 2027 elections draw closer, the movement of key political figures from the APC to the PDP underscores the fluid nature of political alliances and the intense competition for influence and representation in the area.
