The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery and carjacking syndicate allegedly operating in the Alakuko area of the state. The arrests, which took place on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, followed what the police described as an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal networks terrorising residents and motorists in the area.
The suspects, identified as Faruk Rasheed, 20; Olamilekan Ademola, 28; and Abidemi Oluwawemo, 21, were tracked down and apprehended by operatives of the command. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects specialised in car snatching and robbing innocent citizens of their valuables, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of three locally made firearms and eight rounds of live ammunition. Adebisi said the police recovered two locally made pistols loaded with five cartridges and one locally made revolver pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm live ammunition. The suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated the command's unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state. Fatai called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities and emergencies through the command's emergency lines. The police spokesperson confirmed that the arrests were part of the command's sustained efforts to combat armed robbery, carjacking and other violent crimes across Lagos State.
