The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State on Friday formally unveiled its full slate of candidates for the 2027 general elections, with Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli emerging as the party’s governorship flagbearer alongside 49 other candidates for senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats. The unveiling ceremony, held at the Oyo State APC Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, marked the formal presentation of the party’s candidates and the symbolic presentation of certificates of nomination to the standard-bearers.
Senator Alli, who currently represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, used the occasion to call for unity and discipline within the party ranks. Addressing party leaders, chieftains, and supporters, he urged those who contested the governorship ticket alongside him to see themselves not as opponents but as brothers and critical stakeholders in the collective struggle for the party’s victory. Warning against division and internal disagreements, the senator stressed that a united APC would present a stronger front and improve the party’s chances of reclaiming Oyo State from the opposition.
Senator Alli pledged an inclusive administration if elected governor, promising to prioritise education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and other sectors that would positively impact residents across all parts of the state. He assured party faithful that the APC candidates were the winning team ready to deliver Oyo State for President Bola Tinubu and reclaim the state for the progressive camp. Honourable Soji Adedeji was unveiled as the party’s deputy governorship candidate.
For the Senate, the APC presented Senator Yunus Abiodun Akintunde for Oyo Central, Mrs. Hannah Olawumi Ogunsean for Oyo North, and Hon. Engr. Aderemi Abasi Oseni for Oyo South. The party also unveiled 14 candidates for the 14 House of Representatives constituencies across the state, including Hon. Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi for Afijio/Atiba/Oyo East/Oyo West; Hon. Wasiu Olafiye Akinmoyede for Akinyele/Lagelu; Tajudeen Kareem for Atisbo/Saki East/Saki West; Hon. Akinola Adekunle Alabi for Egbeda/Ona-Ara; Umar Faruq Alao Arisekola for Ibadan North; Olatunji Olaiya for Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East; Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo for Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West; Sarafadeen Olaoniye for Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North; Yusuf Asimiyu Osuolale for Ibarapa East/Ido; Barr. Bosun Oladele for Irepo/Olorunsogo/Orelope; Saheed Adejare Yusuf for Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa; Olamiju Alao Akala for Ogbomoso North/Ogbomoso South/Orire; Olusegun Odebunmi for Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere; and Tolulope Akande Sadipe for Oluyole.
For the State House of Assembly, the party presented candidates across all 32 constituencies, including Oyewole Abiola O. for Afijio, Ajao Olugbega for Akinyele I, Owoade Tunde Jelili for Akinyele II, Ijadunola Olushina for Atiba, and Olumide Yemi Bernard for Egbeda. Other candidates include Adeyemi Olaide, Aderibigbe Abiodun, Razak Adekunle G., Adepoju Steve A., Jimoh Tesleem B., Hamzat Wasiu O., Adegoke Wariths, Tolani Mary Adigun, Okunola Taiwo Ado, Ogunlade Babatunde S., Tajudeen Amoo, Adeleke Taiwo Azeez, and Salami Waliu.
The unveiling comes amid ongoing reconciliation efforts within the Oyo APC. The party has been working to heal internal divisions following the governorship primary, with four aggrieved aspirants—former Deputy Governor Rauf Olaniyan, Oyedele Alao, Musbau Asanike, and Dr. Ololade Bakare—having reconciled with Senator Alli and pledged to work for the party’s success in 2027. However, six out of the 11 gubernatorial aspirants who contested the primary had previously rejected Alli's candidacy, indicating that the party still faces significant internal challenges.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, the Oyo APC is betting on unity and the popularity of its candidates to dislodge the incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde and reclaim the state. Senator Alli and his team have their work cut out for them—healing internal wounds, mobilising grassroots support, and presenting a compelling alternative to the people of Oyo State. The unveiling of the full candidate list is a critical first step in what promises to be a fiercely contested electoral battle.
