Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled an attempted ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, dismantling several makeshift camps and recovering a cache of weapons, including rocket-propelled grenade bombs.
The acting Military Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, September 7, 2026. He explained that troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai, encountered the terrorists while conducting a routine patrol along the axis on the same day.
According to the military spokesman, the terrorists attempted to ambush the military convoy but the troops responded swiftly and decisively, forcing the insurgents to withdraw from the area in disarray. Following the initial encounter, reinforcements were deployed to the location, enabling the unit to clear the ambush site and conduct exploitation operations across the surrounding terrain.
During the operation, troops discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps assessed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging and hideout locations. Items recovered at the scene included rocket-propelled grenade bombs, a motorcycle, bicycles, an ammunition magazine, and loose rounds of live ammunition.
Goni confirmed that no soldier was killed or injured in the encounter, although some military vehicles sustained damage as a result of the engagement. "Notwithstanding the damage, the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission," he said.
While noting that the security situation in the general area remains calm but unpredictable, the military assured that aggressive patrols would be sustained to deny criminal elements freedom of action. It also urged members of the public to assist security forces with timely and credible information on suspicious movements in their communities.
