The Niger State Police Command has arrested 21 suspects in a series of coordinated operations targeting thuggery, armed robbery, and the possession of dangerous weapons across Minna and other parts of the state. The arrests, which followed intelligence-led raids on identified criminal hideouts and blackspots, also led to the recovery of locally made pistols, sharp weapons, and other illicit items. The operations, conducted between August 24 and September 5, 2026, saw police operatives from various divisions storm criminal hotspots, dismantling networks that had been terrorising residents.
The most significant operation took place in the early hours of September 1, 2026, when police operatives attached to the Chanchaga Division launched a midnight raid on identified blackspots around Angwan-Dakoko, Angwan-Kwakwa, and Angwan-Gwari at about 12:30 a.m., arresting 12 miscreants. During the raid, officers recovered a sharp dagger from 25-year-old Victor Solomon, also known as Tumbeleke, and a sharp sword from 17-year-old Osama Saidu Baushe. All suspects were taken into custody for further investigation and prosecution.
In a separate operation on September 5, 2026, at about 2:50 p.m., operatives attached to the Maitumbi Division arrested a notorious armed robbery and house-breaking suspect, 20-year-old Yusuf Musa of Angwan-Kadara, Maitumbi. During interrogation, Musa confessed that on September 4, 2026, at about 1:20 a.m., he conspired with one Danjuma, 22, from the Dana area of Maitumbi, to break into a house behind Dana. The stolen items included a smart TV, an orthopedic bed, 17 pieces of new shirts, 11 pieces of trousers, five caps, bed sheets, extension sockets, a 3kva generator, shoes, a pressing iron, iron rods, solar street lights, and cameras. A manhunt is ongoing for Danjuma to recover the remaining stolen items.
Earlier, on August 24, 2026, at about 9:30 p.m., police operatives attached to the Kpakungu Division conducted a raid around Angwan-Kanawa in the Kpakungu area, arresting six suspects: Sani Ibrahim, 18; Abdulkareem Hassan, 20; Salmanu Ishaq, 18; Nasiru Mukhtar, 18; Suleiman Yusuf, 18; and Abdulsalam Shuaibu, 18. The suspects were found with suspected cannabis, one cutlass, two scissors, and a black bag containing several illicit items.
On August 25, 2026, at about 11 p.m., three other suspects were arrested at Marikichi area: Ibrahim Mohammed, 18; Mustapha Abdulkadir, 20; and Mustapha Mohammed, 19. They were arrested during a fight among themselves, during which Mustapha Abdulkadir used a cutlass to inflict a serious injury on Ibrahim Mohammed's right hand. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and all three have been charged to court for prosecution.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrests and detailed the operations in a statement. He stressed that all suspects would face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations. The arrests come amid sustained efforts by the Niger State Police Command to curb thuggery and violent crime in Minna and its environs. As the police continue their crackdown, residents are hopeful that the message is clear: the days of criminal elements operating with impunity in Niger State are numbered.
