The ruling Accord Party in Osun State has raised a fresh alarm over an alleged plot by the factional National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, and some elements within the All Progressives Congress to violently take over motor parks across the state. The party warned that the alleged plan was aimed at fomenting a statewide breakdown of law and order and creating renewed tension within the transport sector.
In a statement signed by the state chairman of the Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande, on Sunday, September 20, 2026, the party said credible reports gathered from various motor parks specifically identified MC Oluomo as the alleged mastermind of the plot, using his purported surrogate, Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba. The party alleged that MC Oluomo had illegally issued a new certificate of leadership to Oyewale despite the tenure of the incumbent NURTW executive not having elapsed. “The development was allegedly intended to encourage Asiri Eniba to embark on violent activities across motor parks and frustrate the state government’s plans to establish a Park Management System,” the statement said.
The allegations come amid a renewed leadership dispute in the Osun NURTW, with Asiri Eniba announcing his return to the union’s headquarters in Osogbo on Saturday despite the state government’s earlier directive for warring factions to vacate motor parks. Accord alleged that the development could undermine the government’s proposed Park Management System, which Governor Ademola Adeleke announced after the September 13 killing of Accord chieftain Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ajagungbade Emir, during a motor park leadership dispute in Ile-Ife. The party said the governor’s decision to suspend NURTW activities and move towards a new management structure was aimed at preventing further clashes between rival groups and restoring order in the parks.
The Accord Party called on the Presidency and the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to rein in MC Oluomo, warning that he would be held accountable for any breakdown of law and order arising from the alleged activities. The party also expressed support for Governor Adeleke’s decision to suspend NURTW operations across the state’s motor parks and the planned establishment of a state Park Management System. It said the government’s action was aimed at preventing factional clashes following the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, while stressing the need to prevent further violence within the transport sector.
“The threat of factional warfare is still very on ground, hence the strong support of all and sundry for the creation of a park management system which the state governor will announce in due course,” Akande said. “We therefore strongly frown at the illegal and violent activities of Mr Asiri Eniba, supported by Mr MC Oluomo, as a remnant of pre-election violence in Osun State, which should stop without further delay”. The party commended the Commissioner of Police for his intervention in maintaining peace and urged security agencies to enforce the governor’s directive for all NURTW factions to vacate the motor parks, while securing the facilities against alleged factional takeovers and preventing another round of NURTW-related violence.
The Osun State Government had earlier ordered the immediate suspension of all NURTW activities in motor parks across the state following violent clashes between rival factions that heightened security concerns in Osogbo. In a statement issued through the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, the government also suspended the collection of levies in motor parks and directed security agencies to arrest anyone parading as an official or executive of the union. The national leadership of the NURTW, however, openly defied the governor’s order, insisting that no state governor has the power to shut down the operations of the nationally recognised transport union. Speaking at the inauguration of a seven-member caretaker committee for Osun in Abuja, the union’s Deputy National President, Aliyu Issa Ore, who represented MC Oluomo, said the national body could not leave the state chapter without recognised leadership, particularly with the governorship election approaching and the union expected to play its role under an existing Memorandum of Understanding with INEC.
The Osun park crisis has become a flashpoint in the state’s volatile political landscape, pitting the ruling Accord Party against the APC and its ally, MC Oluomo. The Accord Party’s decision to name MC Oluomo directly and call on the Presidency and the IGP to intervene raises the stakes significantly, particularly given MC Oluomo’s status as a known ally and loyalist of President Bola Tinubu. The party’s warning that he should be held accountable for any breakdown of law and order is a direct challenge to the federal government, which now faces pressure to rein in one of its most prominent supporters.
For the people of Osun State, the prospect of renewed factional violence in motor parks is a deeply troubling development. The transport sector is a vital artery of the state’s economy, and disruptions in motor parks have far-reaching consequences for commuters, traders, and businesses. The killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi on September 13 was a stark reminder of the human cost of the NURTW leadership dispute, and the Accord Party’s allegations suggest that the conditions that led to his death have not been addressed. The government’s proposed Park Management System is intended to bring order to the sector, but its success will depend on the cooperation of all stakeholders and the willingness of security agencies to enforce the law without fear or favour.
