Operatives of the Abia State Police Command have arrested a 49-year-old suspected drug dealer, Prince Chukwudi Eguzouwa, and recovered bags containing substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, "Scottish Loud," methamphetamine, cocaine, and other hard drugs during a raid on criminal hideouts in Ahiabubi, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area. The command disclosed this in a statement signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out on September 18, 2026, by operatives of the Violent Response Unit and Anti-Cultism Unit, acting on actionable intelligence. The raid followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, as part of efforts to prevent the state from becoming a haven for criminal activities. The police described Eguzouwa, a resident of Ahiabubi, as a suspected notorious drug dealer within the community.
During the operation, officers recovered several bags containing the suspected hard drugs. The police said the investigation into the case was concluded and Eguzouwa was arraigned before a court on September 22, 2026, where he was subsequently remanded in a correctional facility. The specific charges filed against the suspect were not disclosed in the statement.
Reacting to the arrest, CP Afolabi reaffirmed the command's commitment to intelligence-driven operations against criminal activities across Abia State. He warned individuals involved in criminal activities that the command would continue to target criminal hideouts and disrupt activities considered a threat to public safety. "Abia State will no longer be a safe haven for criminal activities," he said, urging offenders to desist or face the full weight of the law.
The arrest comes amid sustained police efforts to curb drug-related crimes in the state, with the command emphasising its focus on actionable intelligence and coordinated raids on identified criminal hideouts. The suspect remains in custody at a correctional facility pending further legal proceedings.
