The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug traffickers and recovered 69 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in bags of groundnuts, following an intelligence-led operation in Itas/Gadau Local Government Area. The suspects, Shu'aibu Umar, 35, and Isah Ibrahim, 20, both of Atafowa village, were arrested on September 21, 2026, at about 3 p.m. along Sharfolli village in Atafowa District.
According to the command's spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, operatives of the Gadau Division intercepted a black Sharon Wagon with registration number WKA 805 following credible intelligence that the vehicle was being used to transport illicit drugs. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the 69 blocks of suspected Indian hemp, which had been carefully concealed inside bags of groundnuts in an apparent attempt to evade detection. The two suspects were taken into custody, and the recovered exhibits were secured for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and the prompt response to intelligence, reiterating the command's commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks operating within the state. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for discreet investigation and prosecution.
In a separate incident, the command arrested four suspects over the alleged murder of a 45-year-old man, Garba Abdullahi, following an accusation that he caused a woman's illness through witchcraft. The victim, of Dunari village in Atahowa District, was attacked at about 11:40 a.m. on September 22, 2026, while returning from his farm. The suspects, identified as Shitu Dahiru, 25; Magaji Dahiru, 42; Sabi'u Auwalu, 20; and Abbah Abdulzahar, 19, allegedly stabbed and inflicted machete cuts on Abdullahi, leaving him unconscious. Police operatives who responded to the incident rushed him to the General Hospital in Azare, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His remains were released to relatives for burial, while the four suspects were arrested.
CP Aliyu condemned what he described as the increasing cases of jungle justice and self-help based on superstitious beliefs, warning that no individual has the right to take another person's life under any guise. He urged residents to allow the law to take its course whenever disputes or suspicions arise and to provide the police with timely and credible information, assuring them of the command's commitment to protecting lives and property across Bauchi State. Both cases remain under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
