Two suspected cattle rustlers were killed in the early hours of Friday, September 25, 2026, when security operatives engaged them in Okoloke, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. The operation, which took place around 5:00 a.m., involved operatives from Isanlu-Esa and Okoloke, working alongside Nigerian Army personnel stationed in the community.
According to information gathered, the rustlers were intercepted while moving stolen cattle. Two of them were neutralized during the encounter, and the stolen cows were successfully recovered. The operation was part of ongoing efforts by security agencies and local operatives to curb cattle rustling and other criminal activities in the area.
The collaboration between the police, army, and local security groups reflects the multi-agency approach being used to tackle rustling in Kogi State. Cattle rustling has been a persistent problem in parts of the state, often fueling tension between herding and farming communities. The recovery of the stolen cows is a victory for the affected herders, but the incident also underscores the continued threat posed by armed rustlers who operate in the region.
No casualties were reported among the security personnel. The recovered cattle are expected to be returned to their owners after necessary procedures. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the neutralized rustlers, and investigations are ongoing to determine if others escaped the scene.
For the community of Okoloke, the dawn operation brought a measure of relief. But the question remains: how many more rustlers are still out there, and how many more cows will be stolen before the next raid?
