Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a fresh round of appointments, naming the immediate past Chairman of the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission, Pastor Akin Alamu, as a member of the Oyo State Elders’ Council alongside nine other appointees who will serve in various capacities across the state’s governance structure.
The appointments were announced on Friday in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju. The letters conveying the appointments were signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi. Alamu, a former member of the Oyo State Advisory Council, headed TESCOM until the recent dissolution of its board. The governor also appointed Elijah Kolawole Akanmu as Special Adviser on Housing and a board member of the Oyo State Housing Corporation, while Sakariya Mohammed Taofik was named Special Adviser on Rural Development.
Other appointees include Yinka Oladoyinbo as Executive Assistant on Information and Orientation, and Ronke Giwa-Onafuwa and Dapo Falade as Senior Special Assistants on Information and Orientation. Oladoyinbo is the head of the Tribune’s politics desk, bringing extensive journalistic experience to the role. Seun Adelore was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Chieftaincy Matters, while former Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council, Gbenga Adewusi, was named Executive Assistant, Sports Commission. Ogundele Quadri was appointed Special Assistant on Urban Development, Elder Olawale Olugbenga, JP, Special Assistant on Culture and Tourism, and Ibrahim Abayomi, Executive Assistant on Works.
Makinde charged all newly appointed officials to carry out their duties with dedication, commitment and loyalty to the people and government of Oyo State. According to the statement, the appointments take immediate effect. The appointments come amid a period of significant political activity in Oyo State as the 2027 general elections approach, with Governor Makinde completing his second and final term in office and the succession contest becoming a central preoccupation of the state’s political class.
The governor has also been active on the national political stage, recently unveiling a four-point “Reset Agenda” as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, with former Director-General of the Department of State Services Lawal Daura as his running mate. The new appointments are expected to strengthen the administration’s capacity as it enters its final phase in office, ensuring continuity in governance and service delivery across the state. The appointees are expected to bring their experience and expertise to bear in their respective roles as the administration works to complete the projects and programmes it has promised the people of Oyo State. As Makinde put it, they must serve with dedication, commitment and loyalty to the people and government of Oyo State.
