Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled two separate kidnapping attempts and rescued a total of 10 victims in Zamfara State, in a series of operations conducted on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The successful rescues underscore the military's continued efforts to disrupt bandit operations and protect civilians in the North-West region, even as armed groups persist in their campaign of abduction and violence.
The first operation took place along the Tsafe-Funtua Road, where troops responded to gunfire around the Kwanoni area. On arrival, the troops engaged the bandits in a firefight, forcing them to flee the scene. Six people were rescued after their vehicle lost control during the attack. The occupants of another commercial vehicle were safely evacuated after the attackers set it on fire. The swift response of the troops prevented the bandits from taking any captives in that incident.
In a separate operation at Kade Daba in Kanoma District of Maru Local Government Area, troops engaged another group of kidnappers and rescued four victims. One of the victims was recovered during a follow-up search operation after the initial rescue. The troops' persistence in tracking the fleeing bandits led to the recovery of the fourth victim, bringing the total number of rescued persons in that incident to four.
The two operations bring the total number of victims rescued by Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Zamfara State in recent days to 16. On Sunday, September 27, troops of Sector 2 had rescued six members of the same family in Tsafe Local Government Area after engaging armed terrorists who had attempted to abduct them. The troops forced the terrorists to flee and abandon the victims, all of whom were rescued unharmed.
The military has repeatedly emphasised the importance of intelligence-driven operations and rapid response in the fight against banditry and kidnapping. The successful rescues in Tsafe and Maru Local Government Areas demonstrate the troops' capacity to respond to distress calls and engage armed groups before they can escape with their captives. The operations also highlight the critical role of community cooperation in providing timely information to security agencies.
The Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security forces.
