The Eagle Brain Human Rights Organization has condemned what it described as the “silence” of the Kaduna State Government and other stakeholders over recent reports of kidnappings across communities in the state.

The organisation, in a statement signed by its Chief Executive Officer, Comrade Daniel Ejembi, said it was “appalled and deeply saddened” by the reported abductions, which it said had affected farmers, traders, women, children and breadwinners.

The group alleged that families of kidnapping victims had been forced to sell personal belongings and other valuables to raise money for ransom payments, describing the situation as a growing burden on affected communities.

It questioned the response of government authorities, particularly elected and appointed officials responsible for the protection of residents.

“Where is the government? No statement from the Governor. No statement from any government official,” the organisation said.

The group also criticised political appointees, government supporters, religious leaders and other influential figures whom it accused of failing to publicly condemn the reported abductions and demand action from the authorities.

According to the organisation, some political actors had prioritised personal and political interests over the safety of residents, while government supporters who are often active on social media had allegedly remained silent over the reported security incidents.

“Let it be known today that Kaduna citizens are watching. Nigerians are watching. The world is watching,” the group said.

The organisation called on the Kaduna State Government to immediately issue a public statement addressing the reported kidnappings and outlining measures being taken to protect residents.

It also demanded the deployment of additional security personnel to communities affected by the attacks and kidnappings.

Beyond immediate security operations, the group called for what it described as a comprehensive plan to secure the unconditional release of all residents currently held by kidnappers.

It further urged the government and relevant authorities to provide assistance to families affected by the abductions, particularly those facing financial difficulties as a result of ransom demands and other consequences of the incidents.

The Eagle Brain Human Rights Organization maintained that the protection of citizens should remain a fundamental responsibility of government and said residents should not be left to confront kidnappers and their demands alone.

“Failure to protect lives is failure of leadership,” the organisation said, while calling for an end to what it described as official silence over the security situation in Kaduna State.

The statement comes amid continuing concerns over kidnapping and other forms of insecurity affecting communities across parts of Kaduna State.

However, the organisation’s claims about the government’s response and the circumstances surrounding individual kidnapping cases could not independently be established from the statement alone.

The group urged the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to respond publicly to the concerns raised and take urgent steps to protect vulnerable communities and secure the release of abducted residents.
