The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the whereabouts of an armed robbery suspect reportedly arrested and taken to the 3-3 Police Station in Onitsha.

The commissioner directed the immediate issuance of queries to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, while disciplinary proceedings have also been ordered against an Inspector of Police over the incident.

The directives were issued on Monday, October 5, 2026, after CP Oji Ama personally interviewed the complainant and police officers involved following the circulation of a viral video alleging that the suspect could no longer be accounted for at the station.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6.

According to the statement, the commissioner described the allegation as serious and capable of undermining public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

Oji Ama said the command would not tolerate unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or any compromise of established police procedures by its personnel.

He consequently directed the command’s X-Squad to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts.

The investigation will also examine the actions and responsibilities of all officers involved in the handling of the suspect.

The commissioner further disclosed that operational measures had been put in place to facilitate the arrest of the suspect, while assuring members of the public that the command would disclose the outcome of the investigation once the facts have been established.

The police chief also cautioned members of the public against circulating unverified information that could prejudice the ongoing investigation.

He stressed that the circumstances surrounding the case must be established through due process, even as the command works to determine what happened to the suspect.

Oji Ama reiterated that accountability remained a central part of his leadership philosophy, stressing that no police officer was above scrutiny or the established disciplinary process.

The development comes as the command seeks to establish how an individual reportedly arrested and brought to the 3-3 Police Station could no longer be accounted for, and whether any police personnel breached established procedures in connection with the matter.

The identities of the officers facing queries or disciplinary proceedings were not disclosed in the statement. The command also did not state that any officer had been found culpable, as the investigation is still ongoing.

The commissioner’s directive therefore marks the beginning of an official process to establish the facts surrounding the incident and determine responsibility, if any, based on the outcome of the investigation.
