The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a tricycle allegedly stolen from a commercial tricycle operator in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Abubakar Isah and 25-year-old Shehu Ibrahim, both from Zogarawa Village in Dawakin Kudu, were arrested on Saturday, October 3, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6.
According to the police, the incident was reported on September 30 by a tricycle operator identified as Nasiru Ibrahim, who said some passengers had chartered his tricycle from Hotoro Quarters in Kano to Yar Gaya in Dawakin Kudu for an agreed fare of ₦8,000.
The police alleged that while they were travelling along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, the passengers produced locally made firearms, threatened Ibrahim and dispossessed him of the tricycle.
The suspects allegedly took the operator into a nearby bush and kept him there before fleeing with the tricycle.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed operatives of the Filin Hockey Police Division to commence an investigation and trace the stolen vehicle.
The police said the operation led to the recovery of the tricycle at Wudil Local Government Area, along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, at about 1:30 p.m. on October 3.
Two suspects were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident, while the police said two locally made guns were also recovered.
The command further stated that the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation. However, the allegations remain subject to further investigation and possible prosecution, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court.
The police appealed to residents who may have been victims of similar tricycle robberies along the Hotoro-Dawakin Kudu-Wudil axis to come forward and assist investigators.
The command said the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
