The Katsina State Police Command has repelled two separate attacks by suspected bandits in Kankia and Musawa Local Government Areas, rescuing three kidnapped victims and recovering 12 rustled cows.

The operations occurred between Tuesday night, October 6, and the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, 2026, according to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq.

The first incident occurred at about 9:30pm on Tuesday when suspected bandits attacked Fakuwa village in Kankia Local Government Area, where they reportedly kidnapped three residents and rustled about 12 cows.

Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Kankia mobilised police operatives and local vigilantes to the area.

The security team reportedly traced and intercepted the attackers, leading to an encounter that forced the suspected bandits to abandon the operation and flee into the forest.

The three kidnapped victims were subsequently rescued unharmed, while all 12 cattle were recovered and returned to their owners. The victims were also reunited with their families.

In a separate incident, suspected bandits reportedly barricaded the Kiryoyi-Dangani Road in Musawa Local Government Area at about 1:30am on Wednesday.

The DPO in Musawa, following a distress call, mobilised personnel from the Vigilance and Community Response Unit to the location.

The police said the suspects fled after an encounter with the security team. A subsequent search operation led to the recovery of the body of one suspected bandit.

The police said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the group who escaped from the area.

Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the officers and other personnel involved in the operations for what he described as their gallantry and professionalism.

He also urged residents to continue providing security agencies with timely and credible information about suspicious activities in their communities.

The latest operations come amid continuing security challenges in parts of Katsina State, where communities and major routes have faced attacks by criminal groups.

The Police Command said it would sustain operations aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.

Bakastine, in his post on the development, described the operation as a commendable effort by the Katsina Police Command and praised the officers for their response to the attacks.

He also asked Nigerians to share their messages of support for security personnel following the successful rescue operation.
