The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Adeniyi Benjamin, for allegedly operating as a fake medical practitioner and running an unlicensed medical facility in Ibadan.
The suspect was arrested on October 2, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m. by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit following intelligence about his activities at Life Is Good Hospital in the Olodo area of Ibadan.
According to the police, operatives who visited the facility found Benjamin attending to patients and administering treatments, particularly fertility-related treatments, despite allegedly not being a certified medical doctor.
Items recovered from the facility included two weighing scales, four Quantum Magnetic Resonance Body Analysers, a stethoscope, a large carton of assorted medicines and specimen bottles.
The police said preliminary investigation showed that Benjamin confessed to operating as a quack practitioner for about seven years despite having no licence to practise medicine.
He also allegedly told investigators that he specialised in fertility-related treatment and had been administering such treatment to patients at the facility.
The development has raised concerns over the risks posed to members of the public who may unknowingly seek treatment from unqualified practitioners, particularly in sensitive areas such as fertility care.
The Oyo Police Command said investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s activities and determine whether other persons were involved in the operation.
The command advised residents to verify the professional credentials and registration status of anyone offering medical services before seeking treatment from them.
It also urged members of the public to report suspicious medical facilities or individuals presenting themselves as medical practitioners without verifiable credentials to the police or relevant regulatory authorities.
The allegations against Benjamin remain subject to investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.
