The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released the names and photographs of 24 Nigerian nationals arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over offences including fraud, money laundering, drug-related crimes, identity theft, assault, forgery and weapons violations.
The publication forms part of the immigration enforcement campaign under President Donald Trump’s administration, which has intensified efforts to identify and remove non-US citizens considered ineligible to remain in the country.
According to reports, the individuals named include Emmanuel Omowaiye, who was listed in connection with mail fraud; Laurene Onwuka, accused of fraud and impersonation; Olusegun Shonekan and Peter Ude, both linked to wire fraud; and Olusegun Olaseni, whose case involved the sale of amphetamines.
Others named include Newton Jemide, whose listed offences include wire fraud, conspiracy and mail fraud; Shedrack Umukoro and Teslim Kiriji, both linked to money laundering; and Olasoji Akinbode, who was listed over fraud and impersonation allegations. Oluwatosin Afolabi was also named in connection with fraud, while Alameen Adetunji Tokosi was listed over drug possession.
The list further includes Joshua Ipoade, whose case involved wire fraud, and Michael Orji, who was linked to a range of alleged offences, including weapons violations, fraud, identity theft, wire fraud, false citizenship claims and money laundering. Ahmadu Apooyin was listed over a drug-related offence, while Onomen Uduebor was named in connection with identity theft.
Also included are Charles Ochi, whose case involved money laundering; Daniel Eta and Kazeem Runsewe, both listed over wire fraud; and Ifeanyi Ibennah, whose case involved cruelty towards a child. Fatiu Lawal was also linked to wire fraud, while Justin Akubueze was listed over money laundering.
The remaining names include Moyinoluwaseun Okeowo, whose listed offences include larceny, forgery and concealing stolen property; Babajide Oluwaseun Faseyi, who was named over assault; and Bright Eigbedion, who was listed in connection with money laundering.
DHS said the list highlights non-US citizens with criminal records as part of the administration’s immigration enforcement efforts. However, the publication of the names and photographs does not, by itself, establish the outcome of each individual’s criminal case or confirm that all those named have been deported.
The legal status and circumstances of each case may differ, depending on the relevant criminal proceedings and immigration decisions. The allegations and offence descriptions should therefore be understood in the context of the information published by US authorities, rather than as proof that every individual was convicted of every offence listed.
The announcement comes amid continuing debate over the Trump administration’s deportation policy and its approach to non-citizens with criminal records.
