The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered three stolen vehicles in separate intelligence-led operations conducted between October 8 and 9, 2026, across Kano and neighbouring states.
The recoveries involved a Toyota Corolla, a Toyota Hiace minibus and a Mitsubishi Canter truck, according to a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
In the first case, police investigated a complaint by Aminu Yahaya of Darmanawa Quarters, Kano, who alleged that a 2010 ash-coloured Toyota Corolla he had entrusted to Sale Usman, popularly known as Dambu, for sale had been diverted without his consent.
Yahaya reportedly handed the vehicle to Usman on September 22, 2026, with instructions to sell it and remit the proceeds. However, the vehicle was allegedly taken to an unknown location.
Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad subsequently traced and recovered the car from a man identified as Sulaiman in Katsina State. The man reportedly claimed he had purchased the vehicle for ₦7.5 million. Police said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the transaction.
In another operation, officers arrested Abubakar Umar, 23, of Nasarawa GRA, and Mustapha Zubairu Abdullahi, 25, of Layin Makabarta, Tarauni, over the alleged theft of a white Toyota Hiace minibus.
The vehicle, with registration number NSR 261 XB, was reported stolen from Singer Market on October 5 by its owner, Isah Abdullahi, of Bachirawa Quarters in Ungogo Local Government Area.
With technical support, police traced the minibus to a remote location in Mariri Magadawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area, where it was recovered and the two suspects arrested.
The third operation led to the arrest of Abdullahi Adamu, 40, from Potiskum, Yobe State, over the alleged theft of a Mitsubishi Canter truck with registration number BLF 365 XA.
According to the police, a surveillance team attached to the Ungogo Police Division intercepted Adamu on October 8 while he was taking the truck to a garage at Kadawa Quarters for repainting.
The command said the suspect confessed during interrogation that he had stolen the truck from Dan Baba Garage in Potiskum and brought it to Kano.
Police said the Kano State Command had contacted its counterpart in Yobe State to facilitate further investigation and establish the truck’s rightful ownership.
The command added that the suspects would be charged in court after investigations, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspected accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved for their response and use of technical intelligence in recovering the vehicles.
He urged vehicle owners to take precautions, park their vehicles in secure locations and entrust their property only to trusted individuals. He also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities, particularly attempts to sell vehicles at unusually low prices.
The allegations against the suspects remain subject to investigation and have not been established by a court.
