The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Godwin Yahaya, over an alleged conspiracy to kidnap and kill a farmer, Jonah Isah, and subsequently take over his farmland in Munya Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was disclosed in a crime bulletin issued on Saturday, October 10, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun.

According to the police, Yahaya was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) attached to the Kuchi area on September 27, following a complaint from some kidnapping victims who had recently been rescued and released.

The victims allegedly told investigators that Yahaya conspired with suspected kidnappers to abduct Isah and other residents for ransom. They reportedly identified him as the person who contracted the gang to carry out the operation.

Police said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation that he contacted a man identified as Bashiru, who is currently at large, in 2024 to arrange Isah’s abduction so they could demand ransom and share the proceeds.

However, the alleged plan was not carried out until June 26, 2026, when Bashiru and members of his gang reportedly invaded Isah’s residence in Zawudna village at about midnight.

The attackers allegedly killed the farmer and abducted members of his family alongside three other people.

The kidnappers reportedly demanded ₦2.1 million before releasing the abducted victims, who later implicated Yahaya during police investigations.

The police further alleged that investigations revealed Yahaya took over the deceased farmer’s farmland for his personal use following Isah’s death.

Following his arrest, Yahaya was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend Bashiru and other suspected accomplices connected to the case.

The allegations against Yahaya have not been established by a court, and he remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
