Troops of the Nigerian Army, working alongside other security agencies, have rescued a kidnap victim and killed three suspected kidnappers during an operation in Sasaro Forest, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

The operation was conducted in the early hours of Sunday, October 11, 2026, following an intelligence tip-off about kidnapping activities in the area.

According to reports citing security sources, troops of the 195 Battalion, working with other security personnel, conducted a search operation in the forest that led to the rescue of the victim, identified as Prince Michael Akao.

During the operation, the troops reportedly killed three suspected kidnappers and recovered three locally made firearms, nine cartridges and other items.

Akao was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention and was reported to be responding to treatment.

The recovered items were handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), while the bodies of the three suspected kidnappers were placed in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force.

The operation forms part of ongoing security efforts to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities in Edo State, particularly in forested areas that armed groups have reportedly used as hideouts.

The Army has reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other security agencies to protect residents and improve security across affected communities.
