Internally displaced persons (IDPs) and residents from communities in Tambuwal and Shagari Local Government Areas of Sokoto State have appealed to the government to intensify security operations against bandits, saying their greatest desire is to return to their homes and resume normal life.
In a video circulating online, some of the affected residents expressed frustration over the insecurity that has forced people to abandon their communities, farms and other sources of livelihood.
“All we want is for government to drive away the bandits,” the residents said, appealing for decisive action to make their communities safe again.
The displacement has left affected families facing uncertainty over their homes, livelihoods and future, with farming and other daily activities disrupted by fears of attacks.
For many rural households, the inability to return to their farms also threatens their means of survival, particularly in communities where agriculture remains a major source of income.
The residents’ appeal highlights the human cost of insecurity in Sokoto State, where attacks attributed to armed groups have repeatedly raised concerns about the safety of rural communities.
Beyond military operations, the displaced residents want lasting security that will allow them to return without fear of renewed attacks.
Their plea comes amid continued calls for security agencies and government authorities to strengthen efforts to protect vulnerable communities, dismantle armed groups and restore public confidence.
The residents are not merely asking to leave displacement camps or temporary shelters. They want to reclaim their homes, return to their farms and rebuild lives disrupted by violence.
The circumstances of the video, including when it was recorded and the exact number of people displaced from the affected communities, could not be independently established from the available information.
