The Kwara State Police Command has arrested four men in two separate cases involving the alleged exhumation of graves and possession of suspected human body parts reportedly intended for money-making rituals.
The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed the arrests on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Ilorin.
In the first case, two men, identified as Abu Jimoh and Ayo Jimoh, were arrested over the alleged exhumation of graves and removal of human heads from a cemetery in Omupo, Kwara State.
According to the police, the incident came to light in May 2026 when residents visiting the cemetery to bury a deceased person discovered that some graves had been disturbed and the heads of previously buried bodies were missing.
The commissioner said the suspects were arrested at about 5 a.m. on October 8 while allegedly digging graves at the cemetery. Police investigations reportedly identified a herbalist, Mukaila Bello, as the alleged buyer of the missing heads. The available report did not establish whether Bello had been arrested.
In a separate incident, police arrested Kamalden Lukmon and AbdulGaniyu Ibrahim on October 8 along Bakase Road in Alapa after recovering two suspected human hands.
Police said preliminary questioning indicated that the suspects intended to use the body parts for money-making rituals. The men allegedly told investigators that a vigilante member, identified as Abdulraf Apata, had handed the remains to them.
The police said the allegation against Apata was being investigated to establish the facts and determine whether other individuals were involved.
Investigators are also working to establish the identity of the possible victim linked to the recovered body parts and the circumstances surrounding the suspected death.
The command said investigations into the cases were ongoing and that suspects would be dealt with in accordance with the law as the inquiries progressed.
The arrests have renewed concerns about alleged ritual-related crimes and the unlawful disturbance of burial grounds. Police have urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist investigations.
The suspects remain accused persons, and the allegations against them have not been established by a court.
