Political commentator Adeyanju Deji has criticized remarks by some northern political figures, describing them as “delusional” and disconnected from Nigeria’s current political realities.
Deji referred specifically to comments suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who assumed office in 2023, may face challenges in securing a second term. He highlighted contradictions in the statements, noting that some northern leaders, including Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, have projected themselves as key players in upcoming elections despite their positions in electoral processes.
“Adeyanju Deji said Tinubu came from outside to rig himself into power in 2023, but El-Rufai is now saying he will come third in 2027 when he is the one that will conduct the election. If this is not delusion, it is laughable statements and the painting of an alternative political reality different from what is obtainable in Nigeria,” Deji stated.
He asserted that President Tinubu is likely to secure a second term, citing the absence of a strong opposition. Deji urged political leaders, particularly in the north, to focus on practical groundwork rather than making unrealistic predictions. “They need to begin the hard work like yesterday and stop making delusional remarks,” he added.
