A large number of supporters and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Chikun and Kajuru Local Government Areas of Kaduna State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing growing confidence in the leadership and developmental agenda of Governor Uba Sani.
The defectors were formally received into the APC during a meeting held in Kaduna State on June 22, 2026, by Hon. Esther Ashivelli Dawaki, General Manager of the Kaduna State Community and Social Development Agency (KADCSDA). The event brought together party stakeholders, community leaders, and new members who pledged support for the APC and the administration of Governor Uba Sani.
The latest political realignment is being viewed as a significant boost for the ruling party in the two local government areas, which have traditionally been important political constituencies in Kaduna State.
According to the defectors, their decision to leave the PDP was driven by what they described as the governor’s people-centred policies and commitment to inclusive governance.
They stated that the administration’s focus on development, peacebuilding, and improved welfare programmes had convinced them that the APC offered a more effective platform for advancing the interests of residents.
Several of the new APC members also pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects and social intervention initiatives as factors that influenced their decision to switch political allegiance.
Speaking during the reception ceremony, Dawaki described the mass defection as a major political development for the APC in Kaduna State.
She said the movement of supporters from the opposition party reflected increasing public confidence in the policies and programmes being implemented by Governor Uba Sani’s administration.
According to her, the governor has demonstrated a commitment to promoting peace, economic growth, and social development across different communities in the state.
Dawaki noted that the growing support for the APC in Chikun and Kajuru Local Government Areas was evidence that residents were beginning to appreciate the impact of government interventions.
She maintained that the administration’s efforts in fostering unity and creating opportunities for citizens had contributed to the growing acceptance of the party.
The KADCSDA General Manager welcomed the defectors and encouraged them to remain loyal to the APC’s vision and objectives.
She urged them to actively participate in party activities and contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening the party’s presence at the grassroots level.
Dawaki further assured the new members that the APC remains committed to promoting policies that improve the living standards of residents across Kaduna State.
She reiterated her support for programmes and initiatives designed to enhance community development and expand economic opportunities for citizens.
Political observers note that defections remain a recurring feature of Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly as parties seek to consolidate support ahead of future electoral contests.
In Kaduna State, both the APC and opposition parties have continued to engage in mobilisation efforts aimed at expanding their support bases across local government areas.
The APC has consistently maintained that its governance approach is focused on security, infrastructure development, economic growth, and social welfare.
Supporters of the administration argue that ongoing projects and policy initiatives have strengthened public confidence in the government.
The PDP, meanwhile, remains one of the major opposition parties in the state and continues to maintain structures across various communities.
The latest defections are expected to further strengthen the APC’s political influence in Chikun and Kajuru Local Government Areas.
Party leaders at the event expressed optimism that the new members would contribute positively to the party’s growth and grassroots mobilisation efforts.
They also called for unity among party members and urged supporters to work together in advancing the development objectives of the state government.
The reception ceremony concluded with party officials welcoming the defectors into the APC and reaffirming their commitment to promoting peace, development, and prosperity across Kaduna State.
