“I Want to Be a Student Again to Learn How You Won in 2023” — Yari Tells Tinubu

Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has expressed admiration for President Bola Tinubu's political strategy, saying he would like to learn how the President secured victory in the 2023 presidential election.

Yari made the remarks on Saturday, October 24, 2026, during the official launch of Tinubu's re-election campaign in Kaduna State, where he praised the administration's performance and outlined the ruling party's campaign priorities ahead of the January 2027 presidential election.

“I would like to be a student again, to be told how you did it,” Yari said, referring to Tinubu's successful 2023 presidential campaign.

The former Zamfara State governor maintained that the APC would campaign on the administration's record, particularly its policies on infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic development.

He cited the removal of petrol subsidies, foreign exchange reforms, improvements in the country's trade balance and government social intervention programmes as achievements the party intended to present to voters.

Yari also highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and conditional cash transfer programmes, arguing that the initiatives demonstrated the administration's commitment to improving living conditions.

The senator said the campaign council had been engaging traditional rulers, Islamic scholars and religious leaders across northern Nigeria as part of its preparations for the election.

Describing Kaduna as an important centre of northern political activity, Yari said the presence of governors and other political stakeholders at the rally demonstrated the party's organisational strength.

He further assured Tinubu of support from northern political leaders, declaring that the region was committed to his re-election.

“Northern Nigeria is 101 per cent for you, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,” he said.

The declaration represented Yari's political assurance rather than a verified measurement of voter preferences across the region.

The APC campaign director also accused opposition figures of spreading misleading information about the administration, maintaining that the ruling party would respond by presenting its record to Nigerians.

His remarks came as the party intensified its nationwide mobilisation efforts following the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council earlier in October.

Yari, who previously served as governor of Zamfara State from 2011 to 2019, was appointed to coordinate the party's presidential campaign, including engagement with political stakeholders and grassroots organisations.

While Yari praised Tinubu's economic reforms, the administration's policies remain subjects of political debate, particularly over their effects on household incomes, fuel prices and the cost of living.

Opposition parties have continued to criticise the government's economic management and security record, while the APC maintains that its reforms are necessary for long-term economic stability.

Yari said the party would seek another mandate by presenting what it considers the administration's achievements and explaining its plans for the coming years.
