In a bold move to tackle the rising wave of insecurity in Katsina State, Acting Governor Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe has strengthened collaboration with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Olufemi Oluyede, pledging full support for military operations against bandits and kidnappers.
The announcement was made on Monday at the State Government House, where Governor Jobe hosted the Army Chief. Emphasizing the critical need for unity, the Acting Governor declared, “The battle against insecurity is ongoing and far from over. Our task now is to cooperate fully, provide timely intelligence, and work together to save lives and restore peace.”
To reinforce security efforts, the Katsina government unveiled expanded support for military operations, including increased funding for personnel and equipment, as well as an intensified Community Watch Corps programme aimed at boosting local recruitment. Governor Jobe praised recent successes, notably air operations that resulted in the rescue of 76 kidnapped victims, describing the swift response as exemplary.
Lieutenant-General Oluyede, leading a high-level delegation including top officers from GOC-17 Brigade, stressed the importance of public cooperation in defeating insecurity. “While we have personnel within a limited operational space, we cannot succeed without active support from the people. The Nigerian Army belongs to the people. Your cooperation is vital to making Katsina State safer,” he said. He also commended the state government’s unwavering support and offered condolences to families affected by bandit attacks, noting that such tragedies only strengthen the resolve of security forces.
The meeting, which aimed at shaping future strategic interventions, was attended by key government officials including Head of Civil Service Mal. Falalu Bawale, Commissioner of Internal Security Nasir Muazu Danmusa, and several special advisers and commissioners. The Army Chief was accompanied by senior military officers including Major-General Uhu Shote, Major-General I.A. Ajose, Major-General A.A. Idris, Major-General M.O. Erebelu, Air Commodore G.I. Jibia, and Brigadier-General B.O. Omapariola.
Both the Acting Governor and the Army Chief jointly acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s role in deploying a strong delegation to assess Katsina’s security challenges and provide additional support, underscoring a unified front between federal and state authorities in restoring peace.
The partnership marks a significant step in Katsina’s fight against insecurity, reflecting the combined determination of government, military, and citizens to end the cycle of banditry and kidnappings that have plagued the state.
