Education Minister Alausa Hosts UN Deputy Secretary-General, Discusses Reforms and Data-Driven Solutions

Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), has received the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Hajia Amina Mohammed, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

The delegation also included Mr. Mohamed Malick Fall, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria; Ms. Wafaa Saaed Abdelatef, UNICEF Representative in Nigeria; and other senior officials.

During the meeting, discussions centred on strengthening Nigeria–UN collaboration in advancing education reforms. Dr. Alausa showcased the ministry’s interactive Education Management Information System (EMIS) dashboard, which provides real-time school-level data from 11 states, covering teachers, students, and infrastructure.

The Minister described the visit as a reaffirmation of the UN’s strong commitment to ensuring inclusive and quality education in Nigeria. He noted that the partnership would help guarantee that no child is left behind in accessing learning opportunities.

Stone Reporters News gathered that the initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at using technology and reliable data to improve planning and investment in Nigeria’s education sector.
