The Plateau State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Sylvanus Dongtoe, has reassured the Faringada Community Development Association (FCDA) of the government’s commitment to tackling their long-standing infrastructure challenges, particularly road access.
The assurance came during a courtesy visit by the FCDA delegation to the Commissioner’s office at the J.D. Gomwalk Secretariat, Jos, where Arc. Dongtoe welcomed the engagement and emphasized the administration’s dedication to improving infrastructure for all communities across the state.
“This administration is dedicated to improving infrastructure for all communities, and the concerns raised regarding Faringada are a priority. We will be reviewing the situation thoroughly,” the Commissioner stated, highlighting that Governor’s “Time is Now” vision and the state’s Master Plan Initiative will address critical infrastructural needs when fully implemented. He also called on residents to remain supportive of government efforts and pray for the state’s success.
Speaking on behalf of the community, FCDA Chairman, Dr. Zumbes Hosea, expressed frustration over decades of neglect and the persistent lack of road development. “We are an urban community with this kind of dire problem. Sometimes we feel neglected. How can you be in a city and even ordinary access roads are not available to you?” he lamented.
Dr. Zumbes described past engagements with previous administrations as largely unproductive, labeling the neglect of road infrastructure as “a crime” due to the hardship it has imposed on residents, especially during the rainy season. “In the end, nothing comes out of it. But today, we have cautious optimism because of the reputation of this ‘talk-and-do’ Commissioner. This is not a political request, but a fundamental demand for basic infrastructure that has been denied for too long,” he added.
The meeting concluded with renewed hope for the community as Arc. Dongtoe pledged to prioritize their concerns and ensure concrete steps are taken to improve road access. For residents of Faringada, the assurances signal a pivotal moment in their enduring struggle for infrastructure development.
