Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has taken a decisive step in strengthening security and environmental management across the state, declaring that criminals will no longer have any refuge under his administration. The Governor made the announcement while commissioning over 300 motorbikes aimed at boosting security operations across Edo’s three senatorial districts.

The event, held at the Government House in Benin City, attracted key security and government stakeholders, including the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika; Commander of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Oduyebo; and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Gani Audu, among others.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the motorcycles are specifically designed to assist security agencies in reaching hard-to-access terrains, particularly forested areas where criminals often hide. “We promised our people during the campaign that we would fight insecurity and restore peace to every part of Edo State. Today, we are fulfilling that promise. These bikes will be deployed across the senatorial districts and will help security agencies reach areas where vehicles cannot go,” he said.

He further warned that criminal elements would have no place in Edo State, highlighting that the motorbikes, along with other security technologies being deployed, will make criminal activities extremely difficult. “We are not just equipping the system. We are maintaining it. These bikes will be properly serviced and supported to ensure continuous use,” Governor Okpebholo added.

CP Monday Agbonika hailed the initiative as a “new dawn” in Edo’s fight against crime, particularly in addressing forest-based crimes such as kidnapping. “With these motorbikes, we can now go deep into the forests where criminals hide. The days of impunity are over,” he said, calling on residents to support security agencies by providing credible information to aid crime prevention and investigation.

In a parallel initiative, Governor Okpebholo also commissioned heavy-duty equipment—including bulldozers, low-bed trucks, and tractors—to enhance the operational capacity of the Edo State Waste Management Board. The Governor stressed that this move would ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for Edo residents and criticized the previous administration’s practice of renting equipment at exorbitant monthly costs. “The previous administration spent over N50 million monthly to rent caterpillars for waste management. That is not sustainable. These machines were not rented; they were purchased with Edo people’s money for Edo people’s use,” he noted.

The Managing Director of the Edo State Waste Management Board, Lucky Enehita-Inegbeneh, lauded the Governor’s strategic investment, describing it as a major leap forward in environmental sanitation. “With these new machines, we now have the capacity and capability to clean Edo more effectively. This is a sign that the Governor truly cares about the welfare of the people,” he said.

Governor Okpebholo’s twin interventions in security and environmental management mark a significant milestone in his administration’s commitment to building a safer, cleaner, and more efficient Edo State. With security agencies poised to roll out operations using the newly commissioned bikes and the waste management board empowered with modern equipment, the Governor reaffirmed his focus on practical leadership and results-driven governance.
