Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed deep sorrow over the recent terrorist attack in Darajamal community, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, which claimed the lives of civilians and soldiers.
In a condolence message on Monday, Shettima described the incident as a “profound loss” to both Borno and the nation, extending sympathy to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the bereaved families, and the Nigerian military.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots. These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families,” he said.
The Vice President reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to the Armed Forces to review security operations, including the deployment of advanced drones, military hardware, and enhanced surveillance equipment to eliminate terrorist groups across Nigeria.
Governor Zulum had on Saturday visited Darajamal to commiserate with the families of victims of the Friday night Boko Haram attack, which left several dead.
Shettima expressed confidence in the capacity of Nigeria’s security forces to prevail over insurgency, citing ongoing reforms and the President’s approval for strengthened operations. He also noted that the federal government is considering the establishment of state police, stressing that security challenges in some states require specialized local units familiar with the terrain and culture.
The Vice President offered prayers for the departed and assured affected families of continued federal government support, emphasizing the administration’s resolve to restore peace and stability in the Northeast.
