The Electoral Institute (TEI) has commenced a two-day training program for select staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, in preparation for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the 62 electoral wards of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In his opening remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), INEC FCT, Malam Aminu Kasimu, urged all trainees to approach their duties with diligence, professionalism, and patience. He emphasized the unique status of the FCT and called on registration officers to remain aware of public perception and conduct themselves appropriately to prevent negative social media narratives.
Director of Training at TEI, Dr. Binta Kasim, and Acting Director-General, Prof. Sani Ibrahim, highlighted that the training aims to strengthen participants’ capacity to effectively implement the CVR exercise at the ward level. They stressed the importance of fairness and impartiality, noting that a credible voter register is essential for credible elections.
Over 120 staff members, including corps members, are undergoing the training at TEI, with parallel sessions taking place in Abaji, Kwali, and Gwagwalada Area Councils. The ward-level CVR exercise in the FCT is scheduled to commence on Monday, September 29, and conclude on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
