The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to a responsive and digitized welfare system for police officers and their families.
On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP presented cheques worth ₦2,171,124,041.87 to 1,574 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes. The ceremony was attended by members of the Force Management Team, insurance industry stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
The benefits covered policy years from 2015 to 2025, including the settlement of long-outstanding claims pending for nearly a decade. This marks the 11th disbursement since IGP Egbetokun assumed office, bringing total payments under his leadership to over ₦24.2 billion, benefiting 9,735 families of fallen officers.
In his remarks, the IGP described the exercise as both a solemn duty of remembrance and a responsibility to support the families of officers who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation. He emphasized that welfare—whether for serving, retired, or deceased personnel—remains a cardinal priority of his administration. According to him, the police welfare architecture is being redesigned to be stronger, transparent, and fully digitized to ensure timely payment of entitlements.
Egbetokun commended the Force Insurance Unit for its diligence, appreciated the insurance companies for fulfilling their obligations, and thanked the Ministry of Police Affairs for its guidance. He also extended heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering support toward police welfare initiatives.
