The Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Environment, has joined stakeholders from Nigeria and the Netherlands in a mission tagged "Netherlands-Nigeria Innovation Exchange". The mission aims to explore cutting-edge circular economy solutions, spark collaboration with Dutch partners, and drive systemic change in waste management and sustainability.
The mission's key objectives include expanding emerging sectors like waste management and waste-to-wealth, exploring circular economy solutions, and boosting business opportunities in Anambra State. The Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Dr. Felix Odimegwu, attended the mission, which took place from July 21st to 26th, 2025, in the Netherlands.
The mission was led by the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in collaboration with the Circular Business Platform (CBP) in Nigeria and Dutch partners such as Holland Circular Hotspot and The Netherlands African Business Council (NABC). The Managing Director of Holland Circular Hotspot, Mr. Freek Van Eijk, emphasized that the mission will create close resource loops, reduce environmental footprints, and create inclusive green jobs.
The mission ended with an evaluation workshop that will translate into an action agenda. Dr. Odimegwu noted that the circular economy solutions and technology in the Netherlands will offer a transformative opportunity for Anambra State. He also highlighted the potential for replication of innovative waste management solutions, such as waste transformers and organic waste factories, in Anambra State.
The Netherlands-Nigeria Innovation Exchange mission marks a significant step towards promoting sustainability and waste management in Anambra State. The collaboration between the Anambra State Government and Dutch partners has the potential to drive systemic change and boost business opportunities in the state. We look forward to seeing the outcomes of this mission and the impact it will have on the state's environment and economy.
